I painted this last year. It was inspired by my girlfriend’s telling me about her people’s myths from eons ago of a giant turtle depicting the known world. I set out to challenge myself. My idea initially was to have it covered in barnacles and algae. At that scale they’d be pretty microscopic and would make it look filthy and scary. I chose to keep it pristine and friendly looking.

I haven’t drawn or painted anything in 6 months. I’ve been re-watching Stargate SG-1 lately. I’m usually pretty terrible at just sitting and watching something, so I started doodling. I picked Teal'c as portrayed by Christopher Judge doing his characteristic eyebrow raise. It’s not of any particular frame from the show, and I decided to fix the frequently awful looking forehead prosthetic to look more like it’s embedded there. It’s B0 size.

Bee Happy

I always forget about this place. I really should get into the habit of posting things here when I post elsewhere. When I log back onto Tumblr I suddenly wonder why I don’t check it more often because my feed is inundated with great artwork from people who I follow.

This is a casein painting on Arches watercolor paper of a bee on a sunflower.

Polar Bear

It’s been a while since I have posted here. To be honest, I’ve forgotten about it. I’ve been busy lately, but I’ve taken the time recently to try out a different medium: casein.

Casein is a water soluable paint like watercolor, gouache, and acrylic. It is an odd paint in that it uses milk protein as a binder. It dries to a matte finish like gouache does, but the paint seals like acrylic does when it dries.

I have a few more of these, and I will post them as I get time.
